Job Description

Come get your “feet wet” at Zone 7 Water Agency! Gain valuable work experience with an exciting paid Intern opportunity supporting our Water Supply Engineering Section!

SALARY: $25.52- $30.99/Hourly (effective 06/23/2024: $26.29-$31.92/ Hourly)

THE AGENCY: Zone 7 supplies treated drinking water to retailers serving over a quarter million people in the Tri-Valley area including the cities of Pleasanton, Livermore, Dublin and, through special agreement with the Dublin San Ramon Services District, to the Dougherty Valley area. Additionally, we supply untreated water directly to agricultural businesses for irrigation of 3,500 acres, primarily South Livermore Valley vineyards. We also maintain 37 miles of local flood-protection channels; about a third of all the Valley’s channels and creeks.

DUTIES: This full-time paid summer intern assignment, approximately mid-June to mid-to-late August, will support the agency’s Water Supply Engineering section by assisting with projects and tasks such as:

  •       Prepare and manage consultant and construction contracts
  •      Manage project budgets
  •   Prepare and review plans, specifications and other documents related to construction contracts
  •      Support the development referral program
  •      Support the asset management and capital improvement programs

 

Clear training and objectives will be provided to develop skills for potential career opportunities in the water utility industry.

Training/Experience Opportunities: May include, but are not limited to: learning about drinking water treatment processes and operation of drinking water treatment facilities; learning how to perform inspections on active construction projects and prepare daily inspection reports; learning and applying construction site safety; learning about regulations and regulatory agencies associated with drinking water systems and construction projects; learning how to prepare construction plans, specifications, and other documents related to construction contracts; learning about asset management and capital improvement planning; and interacting with other sections within the Agency and contractor and consultant personnel.

 
 

QUALIFICATIONS:

· Current enrollment or recent graduation (within last year) from a college or university, and successful completion of the equivalent of 30 semester (45 quarter) units of classwork

· Possession of a valid California Driver’s License

· Ability to work in the field and office as needed
