Job Description

In this high-visibility position, you will join a team of User Experience web designers whose daily work enhances the customer journey for visitors to Bio-Rad.com, while positioning Bio-Rad as a leader in life science research and clinical diagnostics. You will work with our Lead Designer, our lead Front-end Developer, and other members of the Digital Experience teams to present pages on Bio-Rad.com that are in-line with customer expectations, business needs, and Bio-Rad online branding. You will work closely with division and regional marketing stakeholders to design new pages on Bio-Rad.com based on collaborative meetings, work with other designers to implement front-end coding for new pages/templates, and support a multiple phased redesign of our company website.


Note: This position will either be based in our Hercules, CA campus or will be a fully remote role.


  • Working with our lead front-end developer and the Corporate IT Web Team, support Bio-Rad.com front-end development activities as needed.

  • Ensure front-end development activities are completed per schedule or as dictated by IT sprints.

  • Generate web page wireframes using Adobe Illustrator and Adobe XD or  Axure.

  • Create compositions based on proposed wireframes using Photoshop.

  • Create functional website layout with HTML-CSS- JS languages and semantic web building practices.

  • Improve the user experience by employing usability and accessibility rules, keeping site visibility with cross browser techniques in project integration.

  • Extensively use CSS3, JavaScript, and jQuery to enhance functionality and user experience on web pages, as well as bootstrap to develop responsive web design projects.

  • Attend daily SCRUM standup and biweekly sprint planning on large projects.

  • Create quality mockups and prototypes on tight timelines.

  • Create cascading style sheets (CSS) that are consistent across all browsers and platforms.

  • Maintain graphic standards and branding in accordance with the Bio-Rad.com style guide.

  • Stay up-to-date on emerging technologies.

  • Collaborate with stakeholders, our lead designer, and other members of the Digital Experience teams to design new templates and pages to accommodate different types of products sold online.

  • Consult with Bio-Rad’s analytics lead on all projects to ensure we capture trends of visits and usage to newly launched pages and content.

  • Work with our lead Front-end Developer and the Corporate IT Web Team to ensure designs will work with our website architecture.

  • Collaborate with editorial to ensure all content meets editorial style guide.

  • Ensure work is completed within our established Service Level Agreements (SLAs).

  • Support all User Experience Testing (UAT) of new content and new website capabilities.


  • 5-7 years demonstrable success as a Front-End Developer and Web Designer.

  • Strong client-side coding skills and experience (HTML/CSS/JavaScript/JQuery).

  • UI/UX Layout Design using Photoshop.

  • In-depth knowledge of web design and maintenance.

  • Advanced experience with search engine functions and optimization (SEO/SEM).

  • Experience with web page versioning/source control and of Content Management Systems.

  • Experience using data to drive design decisions.

  • Ability to work independently and in collaboration with others in a fast-paced environment.

  • Excellent problem solving skills.
