TITLE: Skilled Trades Worker (HVAC)
CLASSIFICATION: Classified
REPORTS TO: Maintenance Director
BASIC FUNCTION:
The Skilled Trades Worker performs skilled and semi-skilled tasks and operations involved in the maintenance, repair, alteration and/or basic construction of District buildings, equipment and facilities.
The Skilled Trades Worker works closely with support staff, specific staff and outside organizations to perform the more specialized and complex duties related to a specific skilled trade(s) area as assigned.
REPRESENTATIVE DUTIES:
Performs specialized skilled trades work to service specific maintenance needs of all District facilities as assigned
Performs skilled and semi-skilled functions involving carpentry, electrical, locksmith, HVAC, plumbing and/or painting
Performs general preventative maintenance tasks within specified building trades area and as assigned
Operates, maintains and performs minor repair of a variety of standard and specialized equipment and tools used in the performance of required duties
Lays out work; reads, interprets and may write/draw blueprints, plans, specifications, sketches and layouts
Estimates time and materials needed to complete specific jobs as assigned
Maintains log of work completed; records time and materials needed to complete assigned jobs
Orders parts and supplies; assures appropriate stock levels are maintained
Assists other Skilled Trades Workers as assigned
Performs related duties as required
KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES:
Knowledge of:
Methods, procedures, equipment and tools of the building trades as it relates to assigned area(s) of expertise (e.g.), carpentry, electrical, plumbing, HVAC, painting, etc.
Safety rules and regulations applied to the building trades
Ability to:
Read and interpret blueprints, sketches and diagrams
Prepare accurate time material estimates for assigned projects
Maintains accurate work logs and records
Understand and carry out a variety of complex instructions in an independent manner
Safely use and operate a variety of hand tools, power tools, and other equipment used for building maintenance purposes
Quickly and effectively diagnose maintenance and repair problems and take appropriate action to resolve same
Communicate effectively in both oral and written forms
Perform mathematical calculations using addition, subtraction, multiplication and division
Perform at a journey level of performance in assigned building trades area(s)
Work safely and effectively on ladders, scaffolding, rigging and roofs of varying heights
Meet the physical requirements necessary
Perform heavy physical labor including but not limited to the ability to lift up to 50-lbs.
Use technology, machines and/or tools appropriate to the position
QUALIFICATIONS:
Valid California Drivers License
High School Graduate or equivalent
Knowledge/Experience in one or more of the Building Trades
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
¨12 month position
Salary schedule placement: Level 21 on the current SEIU Salary Schedule
Benefits: Medical, Dental and Vision Benefits are provided by the District in accordance with current contract language between SEIU and Livermore Valley Joint Unified School District

SKILLED TRADES WORKER ADDENDUM FOR – HVAC
SPECIALIZED DUTIES:
Installs and repairs heating, air-conditioning and chiller systems
Operates, repairs and maintains compressors, pumps, boilers, magnetic starters, blower assembly, valves, fans, motors, pumps gaskets, filters and belts.
Operates, repairs and maintains ventilations systems including thermostats, transformers and related control devices.
Lubricates, adjusts and installs various electric, electronic and pneumatic switches, gauges, valves, thermostats, etc.
Performs gas and electric welding as necessary.
Repairs pressure and temperature safety valves.
Performs all work in conformance to building and safety codes.
Troubleshoots HVAC equipment including rooftop package units, boilers, split systems and EMS controls
Performs Preventative Maintenance on all HVAC equipment
Job Requirements
Valid California Drivers License
High School Graduate or equivalent
Knowledge/Experience in one or more of the Building Trades
