Job Description

Bio-Rad is looking for a Senior Scientist with extensive experience in the liquid handling and automation of reagents to support manufacturing and New Product Development for the Manufacturing Science and Technology Team.  The individual will execute cross-functional projects related to development and continuous improvement for our product lines with a focus on Molecular Biology Reagents, digital PCR reagents and the Bio-Plex suspension array system.


This position is eligible for a $8,000 HIRING BONUS: 


  • Bonus offered for a limited time only.

  • Bonus applicable to specific positions as labeled.

  • Bonus recipients must be employed at the time of payout.

  • Bonus payout after 30 days of employment with Bio-Rad.

  • Bonus offered to direct hires only. Agency hires and internal transfers are not eligible.

  • 12 months repayment clause.


  • Develop, optimize, transfer and troubleshooting high throughput automation process(es) to support existing and new production development.

  • Collaborate with R&D and operations functions to ensure on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.

  • Contribute studies and/or activities necessary for process optimization and continuous improvement to assure robust and cost-effective manufacturing processes.

  • Represent Manufacturing Operations on new product development and manufacturing transfer teams. Collaborate with key stakeholders from R&D to operations functions to ensure projects are managed on-time, robust, and cost-effective transfer of new products into manufacturing.

  • Perform troubleshooting relating to product quality and manufacturing process issues.

  • Lead & establish project plans to ensure deliverables are completed to customer’s expectations, using project management tools (e.g., Project Action Plan, Risk Analysis, etc.)

  • Lead and/or manage projects that comprise team members from cross functional areas.

  • Design experiments to meet requirements, support manufacturing and transfer both internal and external processes.

  • Participate in the verification and validation of new process improvements.

  • Requires strong problem-solving skills, technical proficiency, collaboration with key stake holders and ability to work independently.

  • Investigate material issues and determine root cause and provide a cost-effective solution.

  • Extensive experience in method and process development; validation and scale-up.

  • Provide troubleshooting support for both manufacturing and QC in a timely manner.  Participate in root-cause analysis and FMEA, interface and collaborate with various development functions to solve a wide range of difficult scientific and operational problems.

  • Work with external suppliers to resolve raw material quality issues.

  • Author, update or review validation test plans & data summary, production and QC procedures.  Setup change control/infrastructure. 

  • Train manufacturing personnel.

  • Present ongoing scientific/technical work at internal/departmental seminars and trainings.

  • Hands on experience conducting FMEA.


  • Ph.D. in biochemistry/biotechnology or other discipline with 3+ years; or MS with 6+ years.  Formal training should be biochemistry, molecular biology, microbiology or equivalent.

  • Extensive experience developing, optimizing and troubleshooting Liquid Handling platforms: Tecan, Hamilton, Beckman, Hydra, etc.

  • Experience in molecular biology reagent manufacturing processes.

  • Experience in project management across functional teams.

  • Requires strong problem solving skills, technical proficiency, collaboration with key stake holders and ability to work independently.

  • Able to apply scientific training to solve manufacturing and operational issues.

  • Working knowledge of and application of good manufacturing theories and practices.

  • Ability to work effectively and build relationships through inter-organization collaborations.

  • Great organization and communication skills, adept at multi-tasking.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills including writing of scientific and technical reports and presentation.

  • Prefer experience in regulated QMS.

  • Prefer experience in Lean Six Sigma, DOE and statistical analysis.

  • Prefer experience with ERP system – SAP preferred.
