SUMMARY

The Loan Officer assists members with appropriate activities to help develop and maintain members’ financial well-being by: processing, analyzing, and funding all types of Credit Union loan products; establishing ancillary services; performing account loan maintenance activities; processing lending transactions; responding to member’s unique financial situations, and applying independent thinking to advise, cross-sell and refer on appropriate products/services and maximize all opportunities. The incumbent uses their knowledge to apply Credit Union core values when servicing and interacting will all members (existing and potential), colleagues and vendors. The Loan Officer executes his/her role efficiently and correctly with minimal supervision.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Processing, analyzing, processing and funding loan applications, obtaining and all required supporting documentation
  • Advising, selling or referring ancillary products that complement the loan product.
  • Analyzing and reviewing the credit report to initiate a discussion with member to identify any opportunity to move other loans and accounts to Credit Union, determine what debts can possibly be consolidated and identify the member’s other financial need(s) and offer appropriate products and services
  • Proactively conduct follow-up communication to members with pending funded applications. Communicating all pertinent aspects of underwriter’s decision (approvals, counteroffers and denials) to member
  • Performing maintenance activities and responding promptly to requests and questions from internal staff and members
  • Maintaining a high degree of knowledge in all credit union products, programs and services
  • Adhering to internal control and security measures designed to ensure regulatory compliance and mitigate losses and errors

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

Broad knowledge of and practical experience with lending functions, products and services, policies, laws and regulations
Strong verbal, written, and phone communication skills with demonstrated ability to communicate professionally at all levels
Effective interpersonal skills and ability to work with all levels of staff and members in a professional, approachable, and positive manner
Ability to interpret questions, apply policies/procedures to respond and make appropriate recommendations or decisions.
Ability to handle simultaneously, multiple tasks and changing priorities in an efficient and effective manner
Detail-oriented, self-starter who can work independently
Ability to conduct thorough research, and provide workable recommendations and solutions to problems
Computer literate and proficient in software applications, Adobe Acrobat, online research tools and MS Office: Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook
Ability to demonstrate commitment to self-improvement by taking the initiative of learning new skills, systems and procedures
Strong public relations and member service skills
Ability to maintain strict confidentiality
