Family Camp at Yosemite located in the Sierras, about 10 miles west of Yosemite National Park. It is a self-contained summer recreational facility run by the City of San José.

The Parks, Recreation and Neighborhood Services Department is currently seeking to fill (60) temporary, unclassified, seasonal Family Camp Counselor at Yosemite positions.

Work Schedule:
All staff will work five to six days per week, June 2 - August 20, 2024.

These dates are flexible to accommodate school year start and end dates.

Compensation:
During the summer operating season, staff are paid on a stipend per-diem daily rate, based on the rate for the function of the job and the applicant's experience.

Room/Board:
Housing is available at camp from June 2 - August 20, 2024. (August may be adjusted for school) All staff will live in cabins with electricity, cots and mattresses. Meals are included.

Staff Information:
The 2024 summer season begins on June 2 and runs until August 20, 2024. Staff training is June 2, 2024, through June 14, 2024. There are 50 staff members at camp at any given time and a total of 60 hired throughout the summer.

The date and time for interviews and orientation will be announced at a later date. You will receive more information after you have successfully submitted a completed online application (including supplemental questionnaire) depending on availability of open positions and experience level.

All staff may be assigned other duties not listed in the description. Duties may overlap into other position descriptions.

The following Family Camp positions are temporary, unclassified, and seasonal for summer 2024: June 2 - August 20, 2024:

  • CAMP COUNSELOR I
    $84.00 - $89.99 (Daily Rate) $504.00 - $539.94 (Weekly Rate, 6-day work week) Shall be assigned to one or more of the following positions
    • Assistant Cooks, Business Clerk, Custodial Worker, Food Service Worker, Maintenance Worker, Recreation Counselors, Store Worker
  • CAMP COUNSELOR II
    $90.00 - $95.99 (Daily Rate) $540.00 - $575.94 (Weekly Rate, 6-day work week) Shall be assigned to one or more of the following positions:
    • Assistant Cooks, Business Clerk, Cook, Custodial Worker, Food Service Worker, Maintenance Worker, Open Water Lifeguards, Open Water Lifeguard Lead, Recreation Counselors, Store Manager, Store Worker
  • CAMP COUNSELOR III
    $96.00 - $143.99 (Daily Rate) $576.00 - $863.94 (Weekly Rate, 6-day work week) Shall be assigned to one or more of the following positions:
    • Business Coordinator, Facility Maintenance/Custodial Coordinator, Guest Services Coordinator, Recreation Coordinator, Food Service Coordinator, Entertainment Coordinator
  • CAMP COUNSELOR IV $ 144.00 - $164.00 (Daily Rate) $864.00 - $984.00 (Weekly Rate, 6-day work week) Shall be assigned to one or more of the following positions:
    • Camp Lead Counselor

Minimum Qualifications

All candidates must meet the MINIMUM AGE OF 18 PRIOR TO APPOINTMENT, and undergo a required background check, including a criminal history records check, and fingerprinting process as well as provide a medical verification of negative tuberculosis test result.

Education & Experience: None required

Certifications: Licenses or Certificates: Some positions may require any of the following:

  1. A valid CA Driver's License.
  2. Proof of current CPR and First Aid Certification.
  3. Proof of current Open Water Lifeguard Red Cross Certification.

The selection process will consist of an evaluation of the applicant's training and experience based on the application and responses to all the job specific questions.
