Job Description

The Diet Aide is responsible for preparing and serving regular and therapeutic diet trays to Health Center and Assisted Living residents in accordance with posted regular and therapeutic diet menus. The Diet Aide performs routine functions including preparation of portion control items for meals, residents, working tray assembly line, assisting in salad and cook area if needed and performing various food preparation and cleaning activities.


1. Gather menus and all necessary supplies to properly set up tray line for meal service.

2. Check in with Executive Chef and cooks to verify menu and check for changes or substitutions.

3. Ability to read resident menus correctly without error, distribute appropriate condiments, drinks and menu selections.

4. Serve hot food hot and cold food cold.

5. Assemble and deliver trays in accordance with therapeutic diet guidelines to appropriate areas within the Health Center and/or Assisted Living.

6. Provide table service to all residents in the Health Center and/or Assisted Living Dining Room.

7. Serve appropriate food items and adaptive wear within the Health Center and/or Assisted Living.

8. Replenish and restock all paper goods, condiments, milks, juices, dishes, linens and all other supplies as needed for meal service.

9. After every meal service, completely empty, clean and sanitize the portable steam tables inside and outside (drawers and hot box). Have food covers washed in dish washer and replace on steam table for next service. Leave clean for next meal service.

10. After every meal service, completely empty, clean and sanitize the portable tray carts inside and out. Leave clean for next meal service.

11. Maintain station equipment and work area in safe and sanitary condition.

12. Responsible for meeting all applicable regulatory requirements, department policies and procedures relating to meal service(s).

13. Candidate must have already completed California Food Handlers Card Certification or obtain within 90 day introductory period.

1. Possess excellent interpersonal skills and professionalism; must demonstrate understanding, patience, tact and courtesy with residents, families, visitors and/or co-workers.

2. Possess the ability and willingness to work as a team member and collaborate with all staff members.

3. Ability to function under pressure.

4. Possess a sense of urgency, attention to detail and quality.

5. Working knowledge and previous experience in a retirement community food service department preferred.



Job Requirements
1. High School Graduate
2. Computer knowledge; proficiency in MS Office (specifically Excel and Word).
3. CPR certified or obtain CPR certification within 90 days of hire date. Baywood Court will pay the expense for the CPR class.
4. Ability to read, speak and write the English language; must be able to communicate effectively and follow oral and written instructions.
5. Must possess basic mathematical skills; ability to understand measurements and conversions.
