Status: Full-Time

GENERAL NATURE OF POSITION:

Assists the Controller and Chief Administrative Officer/Chief Financial Officer (CAO/CFO) in directing the organization’s accounting function. These functions include establishing and maintaining the Agency’s accounting principles, practices and procedures as well as supporting the CAO/CFO and Controller through financial reporting and analysis, budgeting & planning, cash and investment management, and managing, coordinating, supervising assigned staff.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • In collaboration with CAO/CFO, Controller and program managers, drive annual budget.
  • Creates and leads monthly financial analysis and presentations, including explanation of variances and key issues driving outcomes.
  • Create reporting tools in Adaptive planning module and develop financial models to aid with various decision-making processes.
  • Collect, analyze and report accurate and timely data to ensure funder and internal reporting is accurate.
  • Manage special financial projects, including, but not limited to:

    • Long range forecasting,
    • Scenario testing,
    • Key performance indicator tracking,
    • Trend analyses and operational analyses based on the needs of the program and agency,
    • Prepare ad hoc analysis and work on special projects as they arise.
  • Develop methodologies for indirect cost allocation.
  • Monitor funder approved budget against program actual performance, labor utilization changes and other variables impacting contract deliverables. Review data, trends, and key financial indicators to determine the variances from budget; make recommendation for necessary adjustments.
  • Implement complex and varied revenue and expense accounting allocation practices.
  • Compile and/or review the information required by OMB circular A-133 & A-110, and other reports used for the schedule of expenditures of federal awards.
  • Provide guidance to program managers and other staff concerning the appropriate reporting of program revenues and expenses, including conformance with Circular A-122, and other areas as needed.
  • Provide training and education to Directors and Managers on budget issues and budget building using the Adaptive budget module.
  • Respond to inquiries from the CAO/CFO, Controller and Program Directors & Managers regarding financial and budgetary information and special reporting request.
  • Management Responsibilities
  • Must maintain effective communication across organization lines and has contact with all levels of employees, and Executive & Program staff.
  • Maintain standards of confidentiality and a strong commitment to ethical practices.
  • Assist Chief Administrative Officer/Chief Financial Officer in other job-related duties, including special projects, as assigned.
  • Other responsibilities as assigned to support specific department/business needs.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  1. Required knowledge, skills & abilities:

    • Ability to manage complex financial analysis function in a large nonprofit organization.
    • Ability to synthesize large quantities of complex data into actionable information.
    • Strong knowledge of GAAP principles as they apply to non-profit organizations and with government accounting and reporting requirements.
    • Knowledge and experience in implementing systems, ongoing maintenance and upgrades.
    • Positive energetic, optimistic attitude and willingness to embrace a “whatever-it-takes” mantra while being a committed strong team player.
    • Outstanding verbal and written communication skills, working with all levels within the organization.
    • Demonstrated ability to work in environment that promotes compassion, service and social justice.
    • Commitment and support for organizational initiatives.
    • Excellent problem-solving skills, presentation skills and leadership skills.
    • Knowledge of non-profit industry accounting desirable.
    • The ability to look “outside the box” to develop effective, efficient processes.
                      1. Minimum educational level:

                        • Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance or an approved related field.
                      1. Experience required:

                        • 10 years of financial management and planning experience; with budget management and financial reporting activities in a non-profit organization.
                        • Working knowledge of government contract accounting (State, County, City Contracts)
                        • Thorough understanding GAAP, CAS and FASB.
                        • Advance level skills in Excel, Adaptive Budgeting and Planning, MIP, Power Point, and other data analytics tools.
                            1. Physical Requirements:

                              • Talk, hear, sit, use hands to finger, handle or feel objects, tools or controls and to reach with hands and arms
                              • Possess the mobility to maneuver throughout the building.
                              • Use a keyboard and computer terminal, telephone and other office equipment
                              • Able to lift up to 20 lbs
                              • Normal sitting and walking
