Job Description
UNDER DESIGNATED SUPERVISION, DIAGNOSES AUTOMOTIVE MALFUNCTIONS AND FAILURES AND REPAIRS MAJOR AUTOMOTIVE COMPONENTS AND ASSEMBLIES, SUCH AS ENGINES, TRANSMISSIONS/TRANSAXLES, DRIVE TRAINS AND AXLES, SUSPENSION AND STEERING, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, AND HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING.
 
1. DIAGNOSES AUTOMOTIVE MALFUNCTIONS AND/OR FAILURES, AS REQUESTED. EXPLAINS REPAIR REQUIREMENTS AND ESTIMATES TO AUTHORIZED CUSTOMERS.
 
2. REPAIRS AND REBUILDS MAJOR AUTOMOTIVE COMPONENTS AND ASSEMBLIES BY FITTING AND INSTALLING NEEDED PARTS SUCH AS RINGS, PISTONS, BEARINGS,AND GEARS.
 
3. PERFORMS MAJOR ENGINE REPAIRS SUCH AS GRINDING VALVES AND TUNING ENGINES TO INCLUDE THE ADJUSTMENT AND REPAIR OF VALVES, CARBURETORS, AND IGNITION AND ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS.
 
4. ADJUSTS AND MAKES MAJOR REPAIRS TO ALL TYPES OF SUSPENSION AND STEERING SYSTEMS, TRANSMISSIONS/TRANSAXES, DRIVE TRAINS AND AXLES, AND HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING SYSTEMS.
 
5. REPAIRS AND ADJUSTS BRAKES AND BRAKE MECHANISMS.
 
6. MAY PERFORM SAFETY INSPECTIONS ON MOTOR VEHICLES TO INSURE THAT SUCH VEHICLES MEET REQUIRED POST, FEDERAL, AND STATE SAFETY STANDARDS.
 
7. MAINTAINS TOOLS AND WORK AREA IN A CLEAN AND ORDERLY MANNER.
 
8. MAY PROVIDE WORK DIRECTION TO LOWER-GRADED AUTOMOTIVE MECHANICS, AS ASSIGNED.
 
9. MAY OPERATE CUSTOMER/AAFES MOTOR VEHICLES FOR THE PURPOSE OF ROAD TESTING OR MOVING THE VEHICLE IN OR OUT OF THE WORK AREA.
 
10. PERFORMS OTHER RELATED DUTIES AS ASSIGNED. ACTIVELY COMMUNICATES/PROMOTES THE BENEFITS OF THE MILITAR STAR CREDIT CARD TO CUSTOMERS IN ORDER TO DRIVE SALES GROWTH AND INCREASE CUSTOMER LOYALTY
 
 Job Qualifications :
EDUCATION: HIGH SCHOOL OR EQUIVALENT. GENERAL EXPERIENCE: ONE YEAR OF PROGRESSIVELY RESPNOSIBLE GENERAL EXPERIENCE. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: FOUR YEARS OF SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE IN ENGINE REPAIR, AUTOMATIC TRANSMISSION/TRANSAXLE REPAIR, MANUAL DRIVE TRAIN AND AXLES, SUSPENSION AND STEERING, BRAKES, ELECTRICAL SYSTEMS, HEATING AND AIR CONDITIONING. MAJOR IN MECHANICAL ARTS AND/OR COMPLETION OF A RECOGNIZED AUTOMOTIVE TRADE SCHOOL. MUST POSSESS KNOWLEDGE AND SKILL IN THE USE OF A WIDE VARIETY OF AUTOMOTIVE TEST EQUIPMENT AND INSTRUMENTS. VALID MOTOR VEHICLE OPERATORS LICENSE MAY BE REQUIRED. CERTIFICATION BY THE NATIONAL INSTITUTE FOR AUTOMOTIVE SERVICE EXCELLENCE FOR ALL AUTOMOBILE SERVICES AREAS. OTHER: ANY PERSON INVOLVED WITH AIR CONDITIONING AND EMISSION CONTROL SYSTEM CHECKS AND PROVIDES MAINTENANCE AND REPAIR AS NEEDED MUST BE CERTIFIED BY AN ASE APPROVED TESTING PROGRAM AND RECERTIFICATION AS REQUIRED BY EPA'S FINAL RULE 609 (40CFR, PART 82) AND ASE. (APPLICATION AT OVERSEAS LOCATIONS WILL BE IN ACCORDANCE WITH REQUIREMENTS OF HOST COUNTRY/INSTALLATION ENGINEERS.)
