Job Description


 General Responsibilities:

 The principal responsibility of the Food Service Worker is to ensure the proper cleaning and maintenance of the kitchen and dining facility; and, to provide food set-up and service in accordance with the contract requirements.

Perform a variety of tasks having several steps or a sequence of tasks that requires attention to work operations in a kitchen and/or, dining area following established procedures

Basic Qualifications:

Ability to perform a variety of tasks associated with the preparation and serving of food.

·       Provide cleaning services within a food service environment.

·       Knowledge of, or willingness to learn, sanitation standards.

·       Must follow set procedures in accomplishing repetitive assignments and follow established sequence of work. 

·       Must have solid work ethics. 


 Previous experience or training in related/comparable food service and/or cleaning is preferred, but not required.

 Essential Functions

Dining Hall

·       Clean all tabletops, and ensure that all counters and window sills are free from debris or dust.

·       Ensure that all dining facility floors are swept and mopped on a daily basis. Bi-weekly (or as designated) floor waxing may also be required.

·       Ensure that all napkin dispensers, salt and pepper shakers, and condiments dispensers are full before and after each meal.

·       May be asked to assist with food preparation washing, chopping vegetables; garnishing; setting up salad bar, desserts or other self-serve stations.

·       Serves customers at the direction of Manager and/or Lead Food Service Worker for correct portions and menu items.

·       Removes and wash all dishes from the collection station.

·       Wash pots and pans and utensils.

·       Ensure that all kitchen floors are swept and mopped on a daily basis. Bi-weekly floor waxing may also be required.

·       Clean other kitchen equipment daily, or as needed.

Physical Requirements:

  • Lift and carry up to 50 lbs
  • Work in a standing position in the dining facility and kitchen area for 6 to 7 hours (excluding break and meal periods)
  • Some bending and stooping

Additional Responsibilities:

Perform other tasks as assigned by the Lead Food Sanitation Specialist, Dining Manager, Project Manager or other management designee.
